xsl is the style sheet language for XML, also tranforms xml documents
defines xml parts and patterns as well as formating xml docs
XSLT transforms xml into other types of docs, or other xml docs
IE5.0 not entirely compatible, IE6.0 is supposed to be
Netscape6.0 is supposed to compatible, otherwise Netscape isn't compatible
use of Javascript opens other possibilities, i.e. determining browser type, etc
can be used both client and server side for better platform independence
